Out of School Time Initiative

The Out of School Nutrition and Physical Activity Initiative is an initiative created by the Harvard T. Chan School of Public Health that works with after-school and summer programs to establish and expand healthy food, beverage, physical activity, and screen-time reduction practices and policies through an evidence-based curriculum. Obesity is a major health issue that can impact a child’s ability to learn and lead a healthy life. Since children spend most of their time either in school or in an out-of-school time (OST) program, environments that promote good nutrition and physical activity are essential to obesity prevention.

During three learning community training sessions, participants engage in skill-based training to examine nutrition and physical activity environments, practices, and policies. The program provides resources to encourage participants to make healthy changes to their programs.
